Goldfield, Esmeralda Co., NV - 1907-1908 Business Directory part of the R. L. Polk & Co.'s Nevada State Gazetteer and Business Directory:
Adams Goldfield Mining Co located at 30 Nixon Blk - R L Johns Pres.
The county seat of Esmeralda County, situated a the terminus of the
Tonopah & Goldfield R R, 224 miles south of Hazen, its junction with
the main line of the Southern Pacific, and 513 miles east of San
Francisco. The name selected has not been a misnomer, as within a few
years it has grown from a mining camp to a flourishing city. This rapid
growth has to be attributed to the gold productiveness of its mines, of
which there are about 200, so to judge its future by its past
prosperity, there is every assurance ere a decade Goldfield will be one
of the largest cities of the West.
Little progress was made in the way of development till 1904-5.
Notwithstanding, it is estimated this camp has produced since its
discovery about $20,000,000, half of which sum was the work of 1906.
The foregoing figures are a sufficient proof of the productiveness of
these mines, and with such enterprising citizens as Goldfield
possesses, there can be no doubt that Mother Earth will have to give
considerably of her hidden and precious treasures.
With regard to buildings, the city is well supplied, as it possesses
many substantial blocks, while others are being erected.
It has a good water system, an electric light plant, a fire department,
churches and schools, 2 daily and 4 weekly papers, 2 mining stock
exchanges and 4 banks with a combined deposit of $11,000,000.
A street railway will soon be in operation. In fact, Goldfield
possesses all that tends to its advancement and prosperity.
