Beautifully engraved certificate from the Interstate Railway Company issued in 1907. This historic document has an
ornate border around it with a vignette of a railway car pulling out of a station towards the countryside. This item is hand signed by the Company's Vice President ( Ernest D. Martin ) and Assistant Secretary and is
over 101 years old.
Ernest D. Martin was indicted for fraud in 1912 in connection with the sale of stock in the bankrupt Interstate Railway Company. Martin claimed that the charges were without foundation. Martin was brought to trial in the U.S. district court. The prosecution so failed to make its case that the court directed the jury, as a matter of law, to acquit Martin and a co-defendant.
