The Lincoln Farm Association was established April 18, 1906 for the purpose of honoring and perpetuating the memory of Abraham Lincoln, the taking and holding of 110 acres of his birthplace farm and the development and maintenance of the same.
The Association raised over $ 350,000 from more than 100,000 people to build a memorial to enshrine the cabin. The funds were obtained by popular subscription. Those who contributed no less than $ 0.25 and no more than $ 25.00 received an engraved certificate of membership in the Lincoln Farm Association.
The money raised, was used to restore the cabin to its original site, protect the spring, restore the fields and erect a memorial.
