Beautifully engraved RARE certificate from the Blackhawk Remedy Company
issued in 1920. This historic document was printed by the Security Banknote Company and has an
ornate border around it with a vignette of a cowboy, a gun holding two rattlesnakes. This item has the signatures of the Company’s President, Herman B. Goldman and Treasurer, Dr. Don Davis Sturgis. This is the first time we have had this company's certificate for sale.
As reported in 1919:
A $1,000,000 corporation has been formed to be known as the Blackhawk Remedy Company, said company to deal in liniments, salves, etc., and to acquire certain proprietary medicines which it is expected to manufacture. The principal ingredient to be used in the manufacture of the various medicines is to be rattlesnake oil. The charter gives the company the right not only to buy the rattlesnakes, but also rattlesnake oil and to start rattlesnake farms as well as to develop by-products of the industry. The incorporators are Herman B. Goldman, Louis B. Goldman and Hans Froelicher.
The directors are Louis B. Goldman, John H. Dashiell, Dr. Arthur B. Glasscock and Dr. Don Davis Sturgis.
