Beautifully engraved Specimen certificate from the Pere Marquette Railroad Company . This historic document was printed by Western Bank Note Company and has an
ornate border around it with a vignette of Steam Engine at a station. This is the first time we have seen this certificate for sale, possibly unique.
The Flint & Pere Marquette Railway Company was formed in 1857, with the line extending from East Saginaw to Mt. Morris. Their primary customer's products were lumber and salt. By 1874 the track extended from Monroe on Lake Erie to Ludington on Lake Michigan. Additional expansion extended the system to Port Huron, Bay City and to the Saginaw Valley.
The Pere Marquette was made up of an extensive number of railroads in the late 1800's - Incorporated Sep. 20,1899 as Pere Marquette Railroad Company.
Reincorporated Mar. 12,1917 as Pere Marquette Railway.
