Beautiful certificate #53 from the City Railway Company of Pasadena in 1889. This historic document was printed by the Times Mirror Printing and has an ornate border around it with an underprint of a horse driven railway. This item has the hand signatures of the Company’s President ( C.H. Buchanan ) and Secretary ( M.D. Painter ). The certificate was issued to J.H. Painter and endorsed by him and A.J. Painter on the back.
The City Railway Company of Pasadena was a horse car line from Chestnut to Mountain View Avenue built in 1887. The line was electrified in 1894 by the Pasadena & Los Angeles Railway Comp. It was abandoned in 1941 from Chestnut to Mariposa and in 1952 from Colorado to Chestnut.
