Soda water (water carbonated with CO2 gas) was popular in the latter part of the 19th century. Naturally carbonated beverages such as root beer were well known when it was found carbonation could be introduced artificially. Numerous variations of carbonated beverages were offered to entice the customer, although it seems distilled soda water would be rather tasteless. Soda water is commonly used today as a mixer with alcoholic beverages, but most brands tout their natural flavoring as superior to others. Extremely fine.
