Beautifully engraved certificate from Fuqua Industries, Inc issued no later than 1974. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of a man holding an atom with a rocket taking off in the background. This item has the printed signatures of the Company's Chairman of the Board, J. B. Fuqua and the company's Secretary.
Certificate Vignette Fuqua Industries was a holding company for some twenty-two subsidiaries whose activities were mainly in four major divisions: (1) leisure time, (2)transportation, (3) shelter, and (4) agribusiness. The corporation manufactured sporting goods, agricultural equipment, marine products, lawn-mowers, and snowmobiles. It is also engaged in theatre and broadcasting operations, owns a transportation company, and is involved in real-estate and housing. The McDonough Power Equipment company, located in McDonough, Georgia, manufactured lawnmowers and other lawn and gardening equipment. About J.B. Fuqua Although J.B. Fuqua never attended college, he has emerged as one of nation's most prominent philanthropists and supporters of education. Fuqua grew up on a tobacco farm in Virginia where he was raised by his maternal grandparents after his mother died when he was two months old. Unable to afford college, he taught himself history, business and finance by reading books borrowed by mail from the Duke University Library. In the 1950s, he purchased a tiny brick manufacturing company and built it into a multibillion-dollar conglomerate called Fuqua Industries. Today, he is an active philanthropist with lifetime giving totals of more than $100 million.
