Beautiful certificate from the Oriental Inland Steam Company issued in 1858. This historic document was printed by C. & D. Doubble Company and has an
ornate border around it. This item has the signatures of the Company's Directors and Secretary, and is over 149 years old.
The Oriental Inland Steam Company was in business to set up the ’Indus Steam Flotilla’ with the aim of establishing steamboat connections on the Indus; this apparently met with little success but it gave way to the Indus Valley Railways that eventually linked up with major lines in India to connect Karachi to Delhi - this circuit was completed in 1889 with the opening of a bridge across the Indus at Sukkur.
