Copper has been a part of the lifestyle of Peruvian man for the last two thousand years. Pre-Columbian metallurgy was familiar with the unique characteristics of the material: its durability, resistance to corrosion, malleability, ductility, and easy handling. Over the following centuries, copper continued to be a material of choice for important artistic and technological works. This long history underpins the development of the copper industry, which has made Peru today the fifth producer of this metal in the world market. The property was located at Yauricocha in the district of Yauyos on the Western slope of the Andes.
