The Glensheen mansion is located on a 7.6 acre plot just east of downtown Duluth on the Lake Superior shore. Millionaire Chester Congdon built his home here to foster his thriving iron mining business. The mansion was started in 1905 and finished in 1908, with an then-estimated value of $865,000 dollars. It is possibly one of the most beautiful homes ever built in the United States, and is today a historical landmark open to the public, administered by the University of Minnesota. Chester and his wife Clara, along with their seven children, moved into the mansion after its completion. The family lived there for almost 70 years. Edward Chester Congdon (5/20/1885 11/27/1940)was one of the 7 children of Clara and Chester Congdon. Clara Hesperia Bannister Congdon (4/29/1854 7/12/1950)
