Beautiful certificate from the Tuscarora Trading Company issued in 1889. This historic document was printed by the Crocker & Co, pt. S.F. and has an ornate border around it with an embossed corporate seal. This item is hand signed by the Company's President ( George A. Peltier ) and Secretary ( F. A. Peltier ) and is over 119 years old. Tuscarora was a major mining town in Nevada. Its most productive years were from 1870 to 1890 when its mines produced $40,000,000 in silver. The town's population was about four thousand people, split almost equally between whites and Chinese. The Chinese came to build the railroad and stayed to operate opium dens, brothels and gambling houses. One of the oldest grocery stores in town, George Peltier and Company, was sold renamed the Tuscarora Trading Company. Later, in October 1989, the Elko and Tuscarora Trading companies merged and formed the Elko-Tuscarora Mercantile Company. George Peltier was also the towns postmaster
