Beautifully engraved certificate from the Connecting Railway Company issued
in 1951. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an
ornate border around it with a vignette of a train with an allegorical man on each side. This item is hand signed by the Company’s President and Assistant Secretary and is
over 51 years old.
The Connecting Railway was incorporated January 1, 1902, under the general laws of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of acquiring and consolidating the property, rights and franchises of the Connecting Railway Company, the Philadelphia, Germantown and Chestnut Hill Railroad Company, the Kensington and Tacony Railroad Company, the Busleton Railroad Company, the Fair Hill Railroad Company, the Engleside Railroad Company, and the Philadelphia, Bustleton and Trenton Railroad Company. Pursuant to the above-mentioned purpose, the Connecting Railway acquired at its organization the property, rights, and franchises of the seven corporations named. The Connecting Railway had its principle office at Philadelphia, Pa. It was controlled by the Pennsylvania Railroad through ownership of its entire capital stock.
