Beautifully engraved certificate from the Pittsburgh Investment Building Company issued in 1930. This historic document has an ornate border around it with a vignette of a Coat of Arms. This item is hand signed by the company's president (John S. Hershey ) and secretary and is over 70 years old. The principal and interest was payable at the Central Trust Company of Fredrick, Maryland who was also the Truste on the certificate. In the 1920's the the John S. Hershey Company built the Francis Scott Key Hotel in Frederick, Maryland. The hotel January 8, 1923. It was very popular in Frederick society, hosting parties and wedding receptions, local civic club meetings and the forerunners of power luncheons became frequent events. The facility dominated life in downtown Frederick until 1975 when hard times and suburban shopping forced it the to close.

The picture above was taken in the middle 1920s, as evidenced by the automobiles lined up on both Patrick and Court streets. One of the cars is a Columbia Light Six. Note the "Good Gulf" sign in the lower right corner, which denoted the gas station on the southwest corner of that intersection.
