This historic document was printed by Moore, successor to Pendelton,Boston and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an indian with a rifle. This item has the signatures of the Company's President, Mark Healen and Secretary, B.D. Whitney and is over 171 years old. This is the first time we have seen this uncancelled withough the pen mark through the signatures.
The Boston & New York Chickasaw Land Company was involved with the auctions of cheap Indian lands as a result of cessions of land by the Choctaw and Chickasaw. The company represented investors/speculators from New York, Boston, and other New Englanders. Although a Boston company, the land was in Mississippi. The Chickasaw Indian tribe lived in northern Mississippi, and were one of the 'five civilized tribes' of Oklahoma. They were enemies of the French but friends of the British, and were fierce fighters.
