Beautiful certificate from the Cage Submarine Boat Company issued in 1914. This historic document has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an allegorical woman. This item has the signatures of the Company's President and Secretary and is over 94 years old.
Certificate Vignette The company was named after John Milton Cage who invented the submarine. Unfortunately, the submarine generated too many bubbles so the U.S. Navy didn't buy the concept. John Milton Cage's son (John Milton Cage, Jr.) was an American composer. A pioneer of chance music, electronic music and non-standard use of musical instruments, Cage was one of the leading figures of the post-war avant-garde and, in the opinion of many, the most influential American composer of the 20th century.
