Beautifully engraved SPECIMEN certificate from Protein Polymer Technologies, Inc. This historic document was printed by Thomas de la Rue and has an ornate border around it. This item has the printed signatures of the Company's President and Secretary. Incorporated in 1988, Protein Polymer Technologies, Inc. (PPTI), a Delaware corporation with corporate offices and laboratories located in San Diego, California, is a development-stage biotechnology company engaged in the research, development, and production of bio-active devices to improve medical and surgical outcomes. Since 1992, PPTI has focused primarily on developing technology and products to be used in the repair, augmentation, and regeneration of tissue soft tissue augmentation products; surgical adhesives and sealants; matrices for wound healing and tissue engineering; and drug delivery formulations. Platform Technology PPTI has developed a platform technology which positions it to be a leader in the emerging field of bio-active devices. Such bio-active devices combine mechanical properties typically obtained from synthetic polymeric materials with the capability of proteins to influence cellular functions. PPTI's technology platform consists of proprietary biomaterials, formulated from unique rDNA polymers composed of repetitive protein sequences. This integration of biological and physical product components provides the opportunity for optimized clinical performance and patient outcomes. Through genetic engineering, PPTI's scientists are able to tailor the physical structure and biological characteristics of protein polymers to achieve required biomaterial properties.
About Specimens Specimen Certificates are actual certificates that have never been issued. They were usually kept by the printers in their permanent archives as their only example of a particular certificate. Sometimes you will see a hand stamp on the certificate that says "Do not remove from file". Specimens were also used to show prospective clients different types of certificate designs that were available. Specimen certificates are usually much scarcer than issued certificates. In fact, many times they are the only way to get a certificate for a particular company because the issued certificates were redeemed and destroyed. In a few instances, Specimen certificates were made for a company but were never used because a different design was chosen by the company. These certificates are normally stamped "Specimen" or they have small holes spelling the word specimen. Most of the time they don't have a serial number, or they have a serial number of 00000. This is an exciting sector of the hobby that has grown in popularity over the past several years.
