Beautifully engraved certificate from the Edison, Jr. and William Holzer Steel and Iron Process Company issued in 1902. This historic document was printed by Albert B. King & Co. and has an
ornate border around it with a vignette of lady with an eagle and American Flag. This item is hand signed by the Company's President and Secretary and is over 102 years old.
The Edison, Jr. and William Holzer Steel and Iron Process Company developed a method of steel processing that Thomas A. Edison, Jr. created with his uncle, William Holzer. Holzer had worked for Thomas Edison in the Menlo Park laboratory 20 years earlier. Although Bethlehem Steel Company expressed some interest, the process was never adopted and the company collapsed in litigation.
Thomas A. Edison, Jr. was born on January 10, 1876 to Edison's first wife, Mary Stilwell. He was not an achiever like his father. Although he tried to capitalize on his name, his ventures always ended in failure. His father was not happy with his use of his famous name in failed ventures so on June 8, 1903 Thomas A. Edison signed an agreement with his son Thomas A. Edison, Jr., whereby the younger Edison will not use his own name in any business enterprise in exchange for a weekly allowance of $35.
