Plasmine Technology, Inc. manufactures and distributes a wide range of sizing products to the paper industry throughout the United States and Canada. Its products are based primarily on rosin and styrene acrylic acid technology. Plasmine produces the broadest variety of rosin-based sizes on the market. These include extended and fortified liquid soaps, anionic dispersed sizes, and cationic dispersed sizes. Mill trials have shown Plasmine's cationic dispersed sizes to be the best products of their type on the market today. One of these, Plasmine NeuRoz® XC-7, is the only internal size available today that is effective across the full pH range (4.5 - 8.5) commonly used in modern papermaking. As the supplier of approximately 45% of the liquid rosin size used by the North American paper industry, the company has developed a solid supplier "niche" within the industry. Plasmine's sales force covers the U. S. market. A Canadian distributor, supported by Plasmine training and backup technical support, services the Canadian market.Quality is of major importance to Plasmine Technology and the company has established a Quality Statement signed by all employees of the company. This attention to quality has enabled the company to become a single source supplier to many major paper companies in the United States, including International Paper, Boise Cascade, and Mead Corporation. Plasmine traces it early history back to 1912 as the Newport Industries' wood rosin turpentine extraction business started up in Pensacola, Florida. After moving through several stages, the company was purchased by Reichhold Chemicals in 1973. Reichhold's Paper Chemicals Group was enhanced with the acquisition of The Plasmine Corporation, based in Portland, Maine, in 1985. In 1990, the Paper Chemicals Group was spun off to form a new company, Plasmine Technology, Inc., now wholly owned by Harima Chemicals of Osaka, Japan. Information is from company marketing material.
