Beautifully engraved SCARCE Certificate from the Defender Gold Mining Co. issued in 1901. This historic document was printed by Gowdy-Simmmons Printing and has a nautical rope border around it with a vignette of the sailboat Defender, a steering wheel from a sailboat and America's Cup Trophy with a full silver underprint of the ocean. This item is hand signed by the Company's President, Edwin Arkell and Secretary, Chas. A. Brooke and is over 110 years old.
The America's Cup has captured the hearts and minds of yachting enthusiasts for over 150 years. In 1895, the sailboat Defender of the USA defeated Valkyrie II of England to win the Cup. This Gold Mine in Cripple Creek was named after this famous boat.
