Old Ad Shown for Illustrative Purposes Samuel T.W. Sanford, a New York City physician, began selling the Liver Invigorator in the mid-1840s. About 1878, the Potter Drug and Chemical Co. became a subsidiary manufacturer of some of Dr. Sanford's preparations including the Liver Invigorator. Other products included the Radical Cure, Essence of Jamaica Ginger, and White Pine Balsam. The company distributed them from Boston and London. About 1860 Sanford's sons joined his business and the family members retained control of their brands through the turn of the century. The Radical Cure was first introduced about 1871. Samuel Sanford retired in the early 1880's. Dr. Sanford's Liver Invigorator was advertised a cure for for Liver Complaints, Dyspepsia, Malaria, Constipation, Jaundice, Biliousness, Headaches included the Radical Cure, Essence of Jamaica Ginger, and White Pine Balsam.
