Beautiful certificate from the American Mining Company - New Granada Mine issued in 1850 This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company.  Issued at Windsor, Vermont in 1850 for ten shares. Three nice vignettes. The company had the power to establish mine with separate interest. The New Granada mine was a platinum mine in Columbia. The certificate is VF overall with just a little browning at the left edge. Uncancelled.

This item has the signatures of the Company’s President and Secretary and is over 174 years old.

Historically, mining in the region known as New Granada, which encompasses present-day Colombia, was focused on various minerals, including gold, silver, emeralds, and coal.
  • Gold and Silver: Gold was primarily found in the western areas of New Granada (modern-day Colombia),
according to The map as history
. The discovery of new silver deposits in the 16th century led to a surge in silver exports from the New World, surpassing gold shipments after 1530.
  • Emeralds: The Cordillera Oriental
has long been a significant source of valuable emeralds, with Colombia being the leading producer globally.
  • Coal: Colombia possesses extensive coalfields, particularly in
    La Guajira
, representing the largest in northern South America.
