Ohio River Land and Marble Company's property consisted of 46,000 acres heavily timbered lands on the Ohio River. The Big Sandy Railroad ran through it twenty miles from Vanceburg to opposite Portsmouth, Ohio. The company was in business for the purpose of mining lithographic stone, marble, mineral paint, iron, and other minerals; and for erecting mills and using the same for the purpose of manufacturing lumber, and building ships, boats, etc. History from Encyberpedia and OldCompany.com (old stock certificate research service)
