Certificate Vignette In 1968, Union Tank Car Company, a railcar leasing operation, created TransUnion as its parent holding company. Using its technical expertise, TransUnion acquired the Credit Bureau of Cook County (CBCC). At the time, the bureau manually maintained 3.6 million card files in 400 seven-drawer cabinets. TransUnion realized it was essential to build a national consumer credit file to facilitate significant company growth in the industry, so in 1972, the company introduced the TransUnion Credit Reporting Online Network Utility System (CRONUS®).
