Beautifully engraved SCARCE certificate from the MFS Communications Company Inc. issued in 1995. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of the company logo. This item has the printed signatures of the Company's Chairman (James Crowe) and its Secretary and is over 7 years old. This is the first time we have had this certiifcate for sale. MFS was the largest competitive local carrier in the U.S. and Europe that was founded by that James Crowe. The company went public in 1993. In 1996, MFS Communications acquired UUNET Technologies, Inc and expected to have current monthly annualized revenue of approximately $1 billion, with over 50,000 business customers in North America, Europe and Asia served by 4,200 employees. At the heart of the combined company was an international network platform interconnecting 543 Internet points of presence (with 288 outside the U.S.), 7,400 buildings, 218 local exchange carrier (LEC) central offices, 16 local/long-distance switches, 213,000 fiber miles and 7,462 international voice grade equivalent circuits. Also in 1996, MFS Communications was acquired by WorldCom for $14.3 Billion.
