United Artists was incorporated as a joint venture in February 1919 by four leading figures in early Hollywood: Mary Pickford, Charles Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith. United Artists was formed in 1919 by Mary Pickford along with Charles Chaplin, D.W. Griffith and Douglas Fairbanks to counter the growing power base and virtual domination of the movie business by the production companies. This certificate represents a great association of the Pickford-Fairbanks Studios ownership stake in United Artists and is thus truly an historic piece of American entertainment industry history.
